RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Visitor Attendant/Admin and Accounts Officer

LOCATION: Fond Ferdinand

HOURS OF WORK: 37.50 hours per week

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

 

The Visitor Attendant ensures the delivery of high-quality guided and self-guided visitor services at Fond Ferdinand Reserve. The role involves welcoming guests, interpreting the site’s unique biodiversity and cultural heritage, verifying tickets, monitoring park activities, and supporting conservation awareness. Visitor Attendants are expected to represent SIF with professionalism, enhance visitor satisfaction, and contribute to the overall protection and promotion of Seychelles’ natural heritage.

 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Visitor Engagement & Tour Guiding

  • Meet and greet visitors courteously upon arrival.
  • Deliver engaging and accurate explanations on the reserve’s biodiversity (Coco de Mer, endemic flora and fauna), trails, and cultural/historical features.
  • Conduct guided tours punctually, following the scheduled times (09:30, 11:00, 13:00).
  • Interact with visitors undertaking self-guided tours, providing assistance and information when required.
  • Verify visitor tickets within the park, assist at the monitoring gate with ticket scanning, and ensure compliance with entry procedures.
  • Provide clear commentary and interact with visitors in English, French, and Creole (knowledge of additional languages is an asset).
  • Collect visitor feedback and ensure professional closure of tours.
  • Administer visitor surveys when required by management, ensuring visitors are encouraged to provide feedback to support service improvement and awareness efforts.

 

Conservation, Safety & Site Monitoring:

  • Assist with conservation-related activities (e.g., Coco de Mer planting, wildlife observation, environmental awareness).
  • Share conservation messages during tours to build visitor appreciation of the site.
  • Politely caution visitors who litter or breach site rules, and report serious or repeated incidents to the supervisor.
  • Explain to visitors the difficulty level of trails and the fitness required; based on personal observation, advise on safety and whether they should undertake a tour.
  • Follow health, safety, and emergency protocols (slippery trails, accidents).
  • Complete incident reports promptly in case of accidents or emergencies.
  • Provide additional guidance and pacing for elderly or less mobile visitors, and ensure they are informed of accessible routes and potential challenges.

 

Operations & Administrative Support

  • Wear appropriate uniform and identification badge at all times.
  • Accurately complete daily record forms, ensuring all required information on duties performed is captured.
  • Support Senior Visitor Attendant and site management with daily operations as and when required.
  • Assist with maintaining visitor logbook and other reporting tools (digital or paper-based) to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably assigned by the supervisor.

 

Activities & Resource Development

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of visitor activities for theme days and special events.
  • Support the development of visitor resources and educational materials.
  • Contribute to research and creation of new activities that enhance the visitor experience.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications

 

Certificate or Diploma in Tourism and Tour Guiding with at least 2 years working experience in similar field

 

OR

 

Graduate in any Post-Secondary institution with at least 3 years work experience in similar field

 

Professional Experience

 Minimum 2 years’ experience in tour guiding, visitor services, or a similar field.

 Experience in customer engagement, ticket verification, or frontline service delivery.

 

Languages

  • Fluency in English, French, and Creole (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.

 

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (spoken and written).
  • High standards of personal presentation and professionalism.
  • Physically fit; able to walk long distances on nature trails.
  • Initiative, reliability, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Computer literate (MS Office; ability to use digital reporting tools).
  • First Aid certified (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Team player, trustworthy, and adaptable.
