Information and Communication (ICT) Support

SIF is seeking remote technical support to ensure a 24/7 operation of all information and communication (ICT) systems within the foundation including SIF Head Offices, Vallée de Mai, Fond Boffay, Fond Ferdinand and Aldabra.

The contract includes:

  • Equipment, software, services, including underlying network and IT systems

Servers:

  • Aldabra NAS & app servers
  • Head Office: Fileserver & app servers
  • Vallée de Mai: POS server, POS terminals (3) and NAS server
  • Fond Boffay: NAS server
  • Fond Ferdinand: POS server

Networking:

  • Aldabra: Network gateway, managed switches, WIFI Apps
    • Maintain the satellite communications link
  • Head office: Network gateway, managed switches, WIFI APs
  • Vallée de Mai: Network gateway, managed switches, WIFI APs
  • Fond Boffay: Network gateway, managed switches, WIFI APs
  • Fond Ferdinand: Network gateway, managed switches, WIFI APs
  • Maintain inter-site VPN connections to allow internal communications
  • Maintain synchronization of data between sites and systems

Other services:

  • Weather station logging Aldabra
  • Hosting of sif.sc domain and website
  • Hosting and maintenance of e-commerce system that integrates with on-site retail systems at some of the sites.
  • Maintain Microsoft Exchange hosted mail services
  • Support diagnostics and troubleshooting of individual work computers (50)

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure relevant software, services and equipment are available to SIF
  • Respond to ah-hoc support requests within a reasonable time, in any case
  • Escalate and resolve issues in an appropriate, timely manner including outside standard working hours
  • Maintain excellent communication with SIF at all times.

Aldabra database systems:

SIF hosts a large number of scientific databases which are used by field and research staff to collect and analyse data for the various monitoring programs on Aldabra. These systems were historically all MSAccess databases which have been modernised into a single modern web-based platform named Econet. The system is built using PHP and MariaDB® on the backend and HTML/CSS/JS for the interface. It integrates cybertracker to allow for easy data collection. The assignment also includes the continuation of the conversion and migration of the 16 databases into this new system including ongoing support and maintenance on the system and Cybertracker applications.

 

Required qualifications and skills 

  1. Outstanding developer and extraordinairy broad ICT skills (essential)
  2. Excellent website development/app design skills (essential)
  3. 10 years of successful work experience in ICT project coordination/management in Seychelles (essential)
  4. Demonstrated track record of successful international ICT projects (essential)
  5. A good understanding of conservation management in Seychelles and experience in developing databases for data input (essential)
  6. Strong communication skills (essential)
  7. Experience working on Aldabra and/or the Vallee de Mai (essential)
  8. Experience with research and ecological monitoring (preferred)
  9. Experience in the Seychelles project landscape (preferred)
  10. International experience is considered an asset for this position (preferred)
  11. Excellent coordination and organisation skills and able to deliver on a deadline
  12. Excellent Experience building and maintaining Cybertracker applications (essential)
