JOB PROFILE

JOB TITLE:                             Field Research Assistant

REPORTING TO:                    FRO/ Aldabra Scientific Coordinator/Asst.Aldabra Scientific Coordinator

HOURS OF WORK:                40 hours per week, and the person will be required to work outside normal working hours

 

Job Profile:

The Field Research Assistant (FRA) participates in and ensures the smooth running of all monitoring activities on Aldabra. The FRA is also expected to maintain knowledge and information resources related to the Aldabra World Heritage Site. Ensure that all standardised protocols are adhered to and liaise with the Senior FRA and ASC regarding this and that the data from the field are correctly entered in relevant databases, checked and submitted timely for reporting by ASC.

Assist in maintaining and updating all records and data (electronic and hard copies) and ensure that they are kept organised,  easily accessible and regularly backed up. Develop and maintain skills and train other staff in the use of fieldwork equipment, including GPS, binoculars, compasses, tape measures, etc.

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum BSc or equivalent in an environmental subject or Minimum BSc in Marine Biology.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in the environmental field, with at least one year coordinating and managing scientific projects including supervising staff and volunteers, data collection and management and communicating research at a high level
  • Preferably experience working on the Aldabra research and monitoring programme.

  • Computer literacy in at least internet and email use, MS Word and Excel
  • Basic data management skills
  • Professionalism and willingness to represent SIF even when not at work
  • Flexibility in work time and tasks
  • Ability to take the initiative and be proactive about seeking solutions
  • Ability to handle bird, diving and boat (should at least have a 10NM license)

Remuneration

The salary of the position will be at SG6 with other incentives in accordance with the scheme of service for the position
